American power duo Charles and Ray Eames created the relaxing Eames Lounge Chair in 1956 emulating a worn baseball mitt. Mixing comfy leather upholstery with molded plywood, this classic had an aluminum base. An instant hit back then, it still remains a design icon today

It’s even in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan. The Eameses designed a range of lounge chairs, including the 1948 Eames La Chaise, a molded fiberglass masterpiece.

2. Barcelona Chair

German architect Ludwig Mies van de Rohe, pioneer of Modernism, designed the iconic Barcelona Chair in 1929 as part of the German Pavilion at the Barcelona Exposition. Influenced by Roman and Egyptian folding chairs, the simple shape of this classic beauty, combining tufted leather and stainless steel, is the reason why this masterpiece is still so popular.

3. Tulip Table

Finnish-born architect and designer Eero Saarinen tried to eliminate the “slum of legs” under four-legged dining tables, resulting in the one-legged Tulip Table designed in 1956. This mid century modern design icon holds a favorite position thanks to its ability to blend with any style. 

And, its sculptural curves are available in a range of table sizes, from dining to coffee to side, to bar tables, both indoors and outdoors. Mid century mastermind Saarinen was also behind the iconic Womb Chair designed in 1946, known for its comforting, enveloping capacity.
