1. Womb Chair by Eero Saarinen
Mid century modern design fans assure the Womb Chair is the most comfy chair in the globe. It was Finnish/American Eero Saarinen’s intention when he crafted this sculptural, enveloping beauty in 1946 at Florence Knoll’s request. She dreamt about a chair that you could curl up in like “a basket full of pillows.” He is also behind the Tulip Table, the first one legged table ever.
2. Eames Lounge Chair by Charles and Ray Eames
Power designer duo Charles and Ray Eames were American modernists. They were known for finding ways of injecting folksy warmth into their sleek industrial furnishings. Ever wondered what inspired the comfy, classic Eames Lounge Chair designed in 1956? It was a worn out first baseman’s glove! Brilliant!
3. Shell Chair by Hans Wegner
Organic modernist Hans Wegner, came up with the three legged Shell Chair with an avant garde vibe. This plywood and fine leather beauty debuted in the 1963 Furniture Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen. Even if the public was reluctant to accept this edgy piece, it took the spotlight at last, becoming a Danish icon. It was ahead of its time!
4. Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen

Of Arne Jacobsen’ design icons, the Egg Chair designed in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel complex is the most covetable one. A chair “should not only work well as a work of sculpture,” he said once, “but it should also be a flattering background when someone is in it, especially a female occupant.” He was a true master of Scandi design!
